Maddingley General Cemetery

Maddingley General Cemetery

Welcome to Maddingley General Cemetery

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the cemetery exists, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

Serving Communities For Over 160 years

Maddingley General Cemetery has served the needs of the Bacchus Marsh and surrounding rural communities for over 160 years with the first recorded burial taking place on the 15 October 1857. Since then it has been a tranquil place where families can celebrate the life and memories of loved ones.

Like many public cemeteries, Maddingley General Cemetery is administered by a Trust of volunteers, made up of local community members appointed by the Governor in Council. They meet regularly throughout the year to manage the needs of the cemetery on behalf of the State Government, who has overall responsibility for the operation, rules and regulations concerning the cemetery. The cemetery is located on Public Land and is regulated by a Victorian Act of Parliament being the Cemeteries & Crematoria Act 2003.

The cemetery offers a range of sites for both burials and the interment of cremated remains.

As Bacchus Marsh and surrounds have grown and become more diverse, so has the cemetery, which now caters for people from many faith and ethnic backgrounds. It is estimated that the Maddingley General Cemetery has a capacity to meet the needs of the growing community for another 40 years.
